Week 4

Post your final Facebook updates here as we wrap up the book.

Since it's Catholic Schools Week and we may not get around to it, this is due on February 9 (you have one extra week).  You only need to post once but since it's extra time, I know you can all post at least once to wrap up your character.

Happy blogging!

Week 3

This week, try to get a conversation going between you and someone your characters interacts with in the book.  Think of it as commenting on status updates on the real Facebook or in having a real discussion with a friend in person.

I am very impressed with your "getting into" character!  I think it is a fun way to get to know the novel.

Remember, this week's postings are due by Saturday, 1/26/13 at 11:59pm.  Do it earlier so you don't forget and then you'll give your classmates time to respond to you.

Week 2

Don't forget to post your comments - many of you earned a "0" for the first week because you did not participate in the discussion.  This assignment should take you no longer than a minute to complete - if you must comment early in the week so you don't forget to do it later, please do so!!  As always, if you have questions, let me know (you can also email me at dgrandits@stameliaschool.org).

Looking forward to what happens in the next 3 chapters this week!!

Week 2 Facebook Style Character Updates (begins at midnight on 1/13/13)

Use this section to post your character updates from midnight on 1/13/13.  Breaking this up into weeks should help us keep our discussion relatively organized.

Happy blogging!!!  We will see how creative you can get once (and if) your character happens to meet an unfortunate demise soon....

Week 1 Facebook Updates

Post your first week's Facebook-style update here.  Remember, it must be submitted for approval by 11:59pm on Saturday, 1/12/13.  Late posts will not be approved and you will forfeit your homework grade for that week for this assignment.

Remember to change the posting log in to "anonymous" (you can find this option directly under the text box where you will post your character update.

Email me with any questions - dgrandits@stameliaschool.org.

Happy blogging!

Character Assignments

When reading The Outsiders, pay particular attention to your character's interactions and emotions.  You should post one status update per week.  You may also post a comment on someone else's status update if that character has something to do with your character.

Obviously, there are duplicate assignments but please be creative and original (aka - no copying someone else's work!).

Updates are due by 11:59pm Saturday - late posts will not be accepted.

Assignment

Hello, everyone.  Here are the directions for our The Outsiders characters Facebook-style blog.

I have assigned you a character to follow closely throughout the novel.  Once per week, you should either post a status update that your character would likely post if Facebook were around in the 1960s or comment back to another character.

To make a new comment, go to the blog's homepage and click "New Comment".  To respond to another classmates' post, click on "respond" at the bottom of the comment.

Feel free to use Facebook "lingo" but be extremely mindful of "netiquette".  As with all internet-based communications, you should NEVER post anything that would get you in trouble.  If in doubt, DON'T SAY IT!  If you chose to post something inappropriate, your comment will be removed and you will receive a "0" for that week's posts.

Your posts are due by Saturday night at 11:59pm so that you have a full week to read.

Please comment only up to the assigned reading.
If you post something that happens beyond that, your classmates will be confused because they may not have read that far.

Happy reading and happy bringing-the-gang-to-the-21st-century fun!
